Metro Engineering & Surveying Company, Inc. was established in 1967 by owner, Chester M. Smith, Jr. Metro is a multi-disciplined company with an experienced professional staff providing surveying, engineering and photogrammetric services to a wide spectrum of clients. Our experienced and qualified staffs of engineers, surveyors, and photogrammetrists are provided with the industries most efficient and sophisticated computers and software to aid them in providing the highest quality surveys, digital maps and design drawings. We are professionals serving professionals, as well as the general public, government agencies and private entities. Through our multi-displine environment, we are uniquely qualified to provide a combination of related services. Many of our clients require, or desire, only one or two of our services for any one project. They are confident in receiving superior service and products with the realization and knowledge that our staff knows the information and materials needed by other disciplines to complete any particular related task or project.

Whether it’s our photographic aircraft equipped with USGS/NAPP approved precision cameras and airborne GPS, that provide geographic positions for each photo center or a sharply written batch routine enhancing existing software, our staff combines their abilities, equipment and methods to make sure a project is done accurately and on time.

Many of our office staff is cross-trained in several disciplines and all are provided with the most modern equipment. The staff provides support for aerial photo missions, survey crews, GPS missions. We also prepare plats of land surveys, as-built surveys, mapping, GIS base control and maps, engineering design drawings, and related products and services. Metro provides a full range of surveying services including: Boundary Surveys, Geodetic Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Land Surveys, Route Surveys, As-Built Surveys and Cadastral Surveys. We also specialize in construction layout and staking including: General Construction, Steel, Pilings, Floor Elevations, Highways, Bridges, Railroad Yards and Airports. Our photogrammetric services are produced and supported by a fully equipped photo lab for developing and processing aerial film and photo enlargements. Mapping is produced using Zeiss Planicomp P-3 stereo plotters with associated software and/or digital Softcopy image stations. Projects can be mapped using software, as required, to match and/or merge with the clients’ software environment.

Metro possesses all in-house equipment, software and certified personnel for the production of quality aerial digital imagery. This imagery can be incorporated into any GIS/engineering project. Processed digital orthophotos, mosaiced seamlessly into one large image and/or cut into specified sheet sizes are prepared by in-house staff using multiple image stations and software.

Our engineering staff is prepared to assist in varied civil engineering projects such as residential subdivision development, commercial or industrial site development, roadway design, etc. Metro provides services in all phases of development including planning, design, permitting and construction supervision. Additional engineering services include consultation to local government agencies in the areas of planning, design, construction, contract administration and governmental coordination. As with all of our services, our staff combines modern techniques with vast experience to tailor a solution to a specific project. Armed with these various skills and abilities, our staff is capable and experienced in combining one or more disciplines to meet the challenges of current technologies, such as GIS development, digital base mapping, airborne GPS solutions, etc. to meet the needs of the client. All of this is accomplished in a friendly, practical and cost-effective fashion.
